The Dutch Swimming Pond Association held the 9th international Swimming Pond Congress in close cooperation with the International Organization for natural Bathing water (IOB).

The International Swimming Pond Congress was held on Wednesday, November 15 and ended on Thursday, November 16, 2017.  All ASPNSP members were welcome to attend.

As always, the program was packed with internationally renowned experts.  Speakers from the Netherlands, Poland, France and Belgium addressed the members.  Highlights included presentations of the new "Guidelines for Planning, Construction and Maintenance of Private Swimming Pools and Bathing Ponds in Germany" and lectures on topics including:

  • sulphates in the water
  • combined fast and slow filters
  • mussels and snails in swimming ponds
  • methods of bird control
  • viruses, cryptosporidia and giardia in public swimming ponds

A bus tour was included for attendees booking the Congress before March 31, 2017.  There were two options:

  • Option 1:  Monday, November 13 and Tuesday, November 14.  Visit public and private swimming ponds on a tour from Bremen, Germany to Leeuwarden, Netherlands.
  • Option 2:  Tuesday, November 14.  Visit swimming ponds in Holland on a tour from Amsterdam / Schiphol to Leeuwarden.

Swimming Pond Congress (November 15 and 16, 2017)

The Swimming Pond Congress began on Wednesday, November 15 at 9:00 a.m. and ended Thursday, November 16 at 5:30 p.m.  The event was held in the New York conference room at the WTC Congress Center in Leeuwarden, Netherlands.

Candidates for the 2017 PONDY Award were selected by a jury.   All congress participants can take part in the election of the winners.  Winners were announced on Thursday, November 16 at 5:00 p.m.

The WTC Congress Center offered an excellent venue for the 9th International Swimming Pool Congress.  This is a conference hotel, which means that the entire event takes place under one roof. Participants who book the congress and rooms, therefore, live entirely in the Congress Center.

2019 Congress

The next Congress will be held in 2019 in Poland and sponsored by the Polish Association member of the IOB.
